The former Dallas Cowboys tight end predicted former teammate and now unemployed receiver Dez Bryant would sign with the Packers, calling Green Bay a "great fit" for the Cowboys' all-time leader in touchdown catches, but the team isn't expected to pursue him, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Losing Jordy Nelson in the offseason, I think it's a win-win for the Packers.
"I still believe Dez can high-point the football as good as any other receiver in the NFL", Witten added. According to Witten, the Packers check all of the boxes for Bryant, who is seeking a one-year deal.
"I think Dez is certainly going to have some great opportunities", Witten said.
A quarterback like Aaron Rodgers would seemingly be able to get the best out of Bryant, but coach Mike McCarthy has long talked about the dynamic in the locker room as one of the most important aspects to player acquisition.
Obviously, this will disappoint some Packers' fans who were hoping that Bryant would be in the teams plans.More news: New York Yankees fan mercilessly mocks Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel
" ... (Packers quarterback) Aaron Rodgers, he throws that back-shoulder throw so well and Dez has great chemistry with a good quarterback that can put the ball wherever he wants".
Additionally, receiver-turned running back Ty Montgomery is adept at catching the ball out of the backfield and Rodgers even has another dynamic TE in Lance Kendricks to line up in multiple tight-end sets.
Except some guy named Dez Bryant. You need somebody who can stretch the field and [be] that X-factor.
Bryant, who turns 30 on November 4, has not posted a 1,000-yard season since 2014.
After three-straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2012-14, when Bryant also caught 41 touchdowns, Bryant has struggled over the last three seasons, missing eight games and failing to catch more than 70 passes for 850 yards in all three seasons.
