NY actress Allison Mack was arrested on Friday (April 20) on charges that she aided self-help guru Keith Raniere in running a secret society that enslaved women and branded them with his initials, federal prosecutors said.
The Smallville actress was picked up by the FBI earlier this week and was arraigned in Brooklyn federal court. She has been involved with the NXIVM group and has associated with its already-arrested leader Keith Raniere for over a decade, even appearing in a series of videos on YouTube where she interviews her "mentor" Raniere.
"The victims were then exploited, both sexually and for their labour, to the defendants' benefit".
Mack, 35, is said to have acted as a key recruiter for the group while also acting as a direct "slave" to Raniere, with whom she had a sexual relationship.
Mack, who normally posts frequently on Instagram, has been silent on her social media channels since Raniere's arrest. He also said that Mack and her "Smallville" co-star, Kristin Kreuk, were used as "poster girls for normalizing the group".More news: Nawaz Sharif to visit ailing wife in London
"When I was about 23, I took an Executive Success Programs/NXIVM 'intensive, ' what I understood to be a self-help/personal growth course that helped me handle my previous shyness, which is why I continued with the program", Kreuk wrote.
"The accusations that I was in the "inner circle" or recruited women as "sex slaves" are blatantly false", Kreuk said.
Court filings say that in 2015, Raniere, who also went by "Vanguard", created a secret sub-organization with NXIVM called "DOS", an acronym for a Latin phrase that loosely translates to "Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions", or "The Vow". I am horrified and disgusted by what has come out about DOS. "I hope that the investigation leads to justice for all those affected".
Raniere left the USA a year ago after the New York Times reported that some women who joined a group in his organization had been branded with a symbol that included his initials. According to former members of the cult, Mack operated as his right-hand woman and served as the leader after his arrest.
