Carrie Underwood gears up for comeback at CMAs after injury

Both country stars are set to perform at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards, which will mark something of a comeback for Underwood as her first public appearance after suffering a major injury to her face and wrist previous year.

The Academy of Country Music Awards will debut "ACM Flashbacks" to honor classic country music hits and the artists whose music continues to influence musicians and fans alike.

Just because the ceremony is not going to tackle sexual harassment or women's equality, that doesn't mean it isn't going to address other issues, such as the shooting in Las Vegas past year, where a gunman opened fire on a group of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival, killing 58 people.

He said, "This is our first kind of big get together as the country music community comes back to Vegas".

The 53rd annual ACM Awards will be air on CBS on April 15, Sunday.

The 2018 ACM awards will be Carrie's first performance in over five months.

Underwood said the healing process has made her slow down - which she dubbed "forced relaxation" - and spend more time with her husband, Mike Fisher, and son, Isaiah.

David Boreanaz, Ashton Kutcher, and Nancy O'Dell are among the Hollywood star presenters.

Underwood is nominated at this year's ACM Awards for female vocalist of the year, as well as for vocal event of the year (with Keith Urban).

Reigning Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert, a former Tishomingo resident, received four nominations.
