United States and North Korea 'holding secret talks' ahead of meeting

North Korean officials were rumored to be floating its capital, Pyongyang, as a meeting ground, CNN reported.

While Trump is "looking forward to the summit", the schedule could be late May or even early June, CNN said. The sides mentioned the end of May - beginning of July as a "current target".

South Korea had conveyed a message from Kim indicating his willingness to pause his nuclear program during talks, but the US had not previously confirmed Kim's intentions directly from North Korea.

Mr Trump said: "We're moving along very nicely with North Korea". There was no immediate word on the possible venue for the talks, which would be the first ever between a sitting US president and North Korean leader. "If there were such talks, we think it's a positive move". Last month, a New York Times report said that the Central Intelligence Agency was taking the lead in preparing for the Trump-Kim summit.

She said the U.S.is deeply concerned about the state of North Korean citizens' well-being.

The talks between intelligence officials are laying the groundwork for a meeting between Pompeo and his North Korea counterpart, the head of the Reconnaissance General Bureau, in advance of the leaders' summit.

Talks between the two leaders are supposed to take place by May, but a time and place have yet to be decided.

"But we can not say for certain that the U.S. counterpart in the North was Reconnaissance General Bureau".

CNN quoted U.S. officials as saying that the summit will be held at the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar - a proposal that North Korea has already relayed to the USA, according Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.

The United States responded by frequently sending its strategic assets such as long-range bombers and aircraft carriers to the region in a show of force and floating talks of military options against North Korea. Once a location is agreed upon the officials said that the date will be set and the agenda discussed in greater detail.

Both Koreas held working-level talks over the weekend to discuss establishing a direct telephone link between their leaders and other communication issues ahead of the April 27 inter-Korean summit.
