Ravens Sign Robert Griffin III to a 1-Year Deal

General manager Ozzie Newsome announced the deal at the beginning of the team's pre-draft press conference at the Under Armour Performance Center on Wednesday.

The last time Robert Griffin III played in a game was January 1, 2017 as a member of the Cleveland Browns. He was the starting QB of record in the only win in the Hue Jackson era in Cleveland, though RGIII did leave that game - against the Chargers in 2016 - with an injury too.

Griffin had been a shooting star for the Redskins after being the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft, taking a woebegone franchise to the playoffs in his rookie season.

Cleveland Browns' Robert Griffin III (10) passes against Philadelphia Eagles' Brandon Graham (55) during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in Philadelphia.

With Josh Woodrum the only other signal-caller now under contract besides Flacco, the Ravens were in the market for a backup but this isn't the veteran anyone expected. "We felt like we needed a No. 2 quarterback". Obviously, his personality, he's a confident guy. The strong-armed, mobile quarterback out of Baylor has a lot to prove after a promising start was derailed by injuries, and he was ultimately benched, released and then out of the league. "I felt like he really wanted to be here, be a Raven". "I'm pretty excited about this player". They like him as a person. He signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday night.

Griffin responded to the signing by tweeting his new team's mantra, #playlikearaven.
