Aubameyang says 'confidence is back' after Watford win

Arsenal may have emerged victorious in a three nil victory in a home match against Watford on Super Sunday yesterday (March 11), but that was not the only winning that the Gunners bagged.

Shkodran Mustafi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all ended up on the score-sheet for Arsenal.

Arsenal picked up the pace again and returning Mkhitaryan's earlier assist, Aubameyang supplied the cross to give the Armenia worldwide his first league goal for Arsenal.

Arsenal won 2-0 in Italy last week and will be confident of securing their place in the Europa League quarter-finals later this week.

Having already turned out for them in the Champions League this season, Aubameyang can not represent two sides in the same UEFA event across any given campaign.

However, Watford were awarded a penalty two minutes later when Pereyra was brought down.

The striker was the target of yet more gleeful goading from the Arsenal faithful when Mkhitaryan made sure of the three points with 13 minutes left to play, Karnezis failing to adjust in time to deal with the Armenian's strike.

Those who did turn up were treated to an early goal, with Mustafi heading home from a Mesut Ozil free-kick - Arsenal's 1000th home goal in the Premier League.

In his 15 Premier League matches for Man United in 2017/18, Mkhitaryan was directly involved in just six goals (one goal, five assists).

But the drab atmosphere at Sunday's game gave it an "end of an era" feel that will persist until Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke and chief executive Ivan Gazidis conduct the end-of-season review that will decide Wenger's fate. "Then you carry the chance that you might qualify for the Champions League".

"Overall it gets us out of that negative spirit that we were in", he said. That kept us out of trouble. "We are not so far to the end of the season so, any injuries, you lose them for the rest of the season".

It was Ozil's third assist in two games, after he set up both goals in Arsenal's 2-0 Europa League win at AC Milan on Thursday. "I can not say anything more because there is nothing to say about it and I do not want to offend Arsene, whom I adore and for whom I have a lot of respect". They face Stoke on April 1st, in their first game back after the worldwide break.
