Isabel's Love brings Mexican food with heart to Gilbert | Dining | eastvalleytribune.com

Tucked into the Forum at Gilbert Ranch on the northwest corner of Val Vista and Williams Field Road in Gilbert is Isabel's Love, a new mom-and-pop restaurant serving homemade Mexican food and craft cocktails.

"Growing up, Nana Isabel's recipes were the centerpiece of every celebration and happy occasion," says co-owner Tim Vasquez. "We have wanted to serve Isabel's beloved dishes in a comfortable, homey setting for years, and my family and I am excited to see it come to fruition."

Tim and his wife, Julie, are the duo behind Isabel's Love, named for Tim's late grandmother.

The couple has longtime East Valley roots, hailing from Tempe and Gilbert families whose other area restaurants include South Phoenix's Poncho's and the fast-casual chain Someburros. >

Tim coaches little leagues throughout Gilbert and is an active member of the Tempe Diablos. Julie founded the charity East Valley Sol, which raises funds for children and families who need help with unexpected medical costs.

The Vasquezes' Gilbert eatery will serve authentic Mexican fare alongside menu of craft cocktails curated by mixologist Travis Nass.

Dishes include the Fresh Jicama Salad ($ 6), made with fresh seasonal fruit and jicama tossed with lime, cilantro and jalapeno, and the Red Chicken Chili ($ 15), which features tender chicken stewed for five hours in guajillo chiles with a deep, savory red sauce. Agave-forward cocktails include the Lychee Rose margarita ($ 9), made with white tequila, lychee liqueur, rose syrup and lime, and the Guero ($ 9), with Cruz Blanco, coffee liqueur and Rumchata.
