Drunk man accidentally hails $1600 Uber from West Virginia to New Jersey

"I didn't know what to think", he said.

Kenny Bachman, who had been drinking, slept for much of his ride from West Virginia to New Jersey. His mistake carried a price tag of $1,635.93.

And to throw some salt on his already-large wound, Bachman accidentally ordered a pricy UberXL, which can accommodate six passengers and is exceptionally more expensive than the standard UberX.

A drunk man hailed an Uber near West Virginia University last weekend.

A breakdown of the trip found the following: a $3.94 base fare, plus $2.35 booking fee, $696.95 for distance and $115 for time. He told the driver to take him to a New Jersey destination more than 300 miles away. Rather than get out of the auto or turn around, he just went with it.

He says he gave the driver five stars and even gave the driver cash to cover the cost of tolls on the way home.

The Uber driver didn't have money for tolls, Bachman says, and was fined at every tollbooth.

"It would have cost like $800 but instead it came out to $1,600", Bachman says. He said that he never put the address into the phone and that, at some point, the driver got control of the phone. "Basically, I kinda just blacked out". He claims the Uber driver had his phone when he woke up and even answered a FaceTime call from a friend while he was asleep.

A drunk man in the U.S. types in the wrong destination and takes an Uber ride of epic proportions - with a fare to match. Uber told NJ.com that it got in contact with Bachman, and he agreed to pay the fare.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the make and model of the Uber auto.
