There are those who confuse Milk Glass with Peace Lily. But do not confuse. They are similar but are not the same thing.
The Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum wallisi) is also known as the White Flag, Espatifilum or Espatifilo. In Spanish it is also called Cradle of Moses (Cradle of Moses). It is a plant native to Central and South America, occurring in Nature in Venezuela, Colombia and Panama.
It is another plant whose flower is not what it seems, as in the case of Milk. The white part is a modified leaf. The flowers are gathered in the spadix, that long part full of carobs that is wrapped in the white sheet (see photo beside).
It is a suitable plant in the house, or covered areas, since it adapts well to places with little sunshine. Peace Lily is considered a natural air filter because absorbs chemicals present in the environment, helping in the depollution of the air, another reason to have it inside our homes beyond its beauty.More news: Contact Us | Spanish to English Translation - SpanishDict
It can reach from 50 cm to 1.20 m in height, reaching 60 cm in diameter, forming a clump, with new shoots emerging sideways to the main plant, from the base. Its leaves are long and thin like a sheet of paper, in a shade of dark green. Its life cycle is perennial but needs a rest period in winter.
It should always be grown in a place protected from direct sun, as it burns the leaves. This does not mean that you like little light, on the contrary, luminous environments are your favorite, especially when they are flowering. But it fits well even in poorly lit environments, but in them they bloom less. Over time, in dimly lit environments, your "flowers" can turn green.
It blooms during spring and summer, when long stems begin to appear where slowly the green leaf begins to turn white, enveloping the flowers that are only exposed when they are ripe. At this stage of flowering should be watered twice a week, at most three, being careful not to water the flowers. One way to keep it always with some humidity in your environment, is to place the pot on a plate with wet stones, or have a container nearby with water for example. Humidity must be in the air, not soaking the earth. If you have the plant in a place with air conditioning or heating, and therefore has a dry environment, it should be sprayed with warm water because it needs some moisture in the air to stay healthy. If you need more water than you are receiving, your leaves are felled, wilted, and as soon as you start watering the plant, the leaves recover instantly. During flowering, it should be fertilized in a space of every 20 days.
In its growth phase, which is faster in summer, it should also be watered two to three times a week. Always rinse with water at room temperature, never colder than the temperature of the environment where it is, as Peace Lily may suffer from the temperature shock. If it is hot weather, the water should be warm.
With the approach of the colder months, and the end of the flowering, it is advisable to give the plant a rest period. The watering should be decreased until the whole plant withers. That's right, until the plant wilts! But be careful not to kill it with lack of water, continuing to water, however, with a greater spacing. Is that in winter it needs a rest, with little watering and temperature around 15ºC, never less. If she does not go through this rest in winter it may not bloom the following year.
