This does not mean that Kushner has no clearance at all. Some officials are expected to leave their posts as a result, while others will continue working with reduced - or no - access to classified information.
Mr. Kushner and Ms. Trump have been critical of Mr. Kelly in conversations with the president, who spent the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., surveying people about whether he should fire his chief of staff. The White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted that Trump maintains full confidence in Kelly, but the apparent behind-the-scenes wrangling suggests that things are still in flux. "He continues and will continue to be a valued member of the team". Kelly has been the subject of criticism in that time over revelations that Porter remained on staff for months in spite of the Federal Bureau of Investigation flagging the allegations of domestic abuse to the White House. "Everyone in the White House is grateful for these valuable contributions to furthering the President's agenda. There is no truth to any suggestion otherwise", Kelly's statement said.
Times reporters Julie Davis and Maggie Haberman report that Kelly's issue with Kushner having access to such info is heightened due to the hit the chief of staff took after his botching of the Porter scandal.
"I can't answer that question because I don't think it's going to happen", he said.
At one time his portfolio expanded to include the USA relationships with China and Japan and a host of domestic priorities, including infrastructure, trade and economic development.
President Donald Trump's son-in-law has been operating for more than a year with an interim clearance, and his position has given him access to some of the most sensitive information, including the president's daily security briefing.
Though a source familiar with the situation said Kushner has not yet appealed to the President directly about his access to highly classified information, those close to Trump believe he would be inclined to grant his son-in-law access if asked.
During the presidential transition - when Kushner was the Trump campaign's main contact for foreign governments and said he spoke with "over fifty contacts from over 15 countries" - he also allegedly spoke with Chinese investors to shore up financial backing for the building.
Kushner has amended his submission multiple times, delaying his clearance process. Kushner has also come under scrutiny in special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Kelly had known about the broad allegations against Porter for months, and initially moved to defend him. The official said many staffers holding interim top secret or SCI clearances would lose them - but most don't need them for their day-to-day jobs.More news: Amazon is rewarding Prime members for shopping at Whole Foods stores
