When to look for the 'super blue blood moon' in southeast Wisconsin

Skies should be clear Wednesday morning, allowing for optimal sky conditions, but Central Texans may run into a problem when viewing the eclipse: time of day.

Others prefer "super blue blood moon".

First off, a supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that coincides with the closest distance that the Moon reaches to Earth in its orbit. A super moon is a moon which passes as close as possible to the earth, making it 14% brighter than normal.

What is a blue moon?

A full moon is considered a "blue moon" when two full moons appear in the same month. Totality will start at 4:51 a.m. and end around 6:05 a.m.

The final part of the celestial trifecta refers to the colour, a shade of dark orange/red.

This casts a shadow across the moon, giving it a red glow.

It has to do with the sunlight, travelling through the earth's atmosphere on its way to the moon. Alas, there's a risk cloudy skies will obscure tonight's blue supermoon eclipse in many parts of the country. According to NASA, a blood moon is a moon that is crossing Earth's shadow, and therefore has a reddish tint.

While the partial eclipse would begin at 16.48 PST whereas the total eclipse would start at 17.52 PST, however, the greatest eclipse time is 18.31 PST. The moon will sink below the horizon just after 7 a.m.

It will look extremely dramatic and like a bite has been taken out of the side of the moon, according to Andrew Fazekas. From Northern California, the northwest corner of Nevada, all of OR and Washington, the Idaho panhandle, as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and most of Alberta, the moon will set after it completely exits the Earth's dark - umbral shadow (6:08 a.m. PST, 7:08 a.m. MST).

If you were hoping to see a full lunar eclipse, don't fret.

What's the best spot to watch the eclipse in London? "It will be seen practically across entire Russian Federation, as well as in Africa, Australia and New Zealand if the sky is clear", he said. According to NASA, it's Honolulu, Hawaii that will get the very best experience of the eclipse before sunrise on January 31, 2018.

Tuesday's forecast high is 71 degrees, the weather service said, with 72-degree highs forecast for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Baker says there has not been a Super Blue Blood Moon in 150 years, and there likely will not be another one for 150 more years.

Blue moons happen once every 2.7 years, which explains why the last one happened on July 31, 2015.
