Serena H. Chen, MD, is the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
In addition, she directs the Egg Donation Program of the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science in Saint Barnabas.
Dr. Chen is certified by the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the Board of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He specializes in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, and has demonstrated a special clinical interest in polycystic ovarian syndrome, repeated spontaneous abortions, genetic diagnosis prior to implantation (PGD) and donation of gametes. Dr. Chen points out that her professional interests have varied considerably over the course of her career.

In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. Chen also studied bioethical issues in the area of reproduction assisted and is committed to raising awareness among the public and physicians on issues related to conception, problems to conceive and fertility therapies.
Dr. Chen has published several research papers and has received scientific research grants, including the prestigious Stetler Research and Johns Hopkins Institutional Research Fellowship. He also received an award for his achievements in laparoscopic surgery of the Laparoscopic Society of Surgeons. He is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology. She has acted as a reviewer of medical journals such as Fertility and Sterility, the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology and Reproductive BioMedicine Online. It works actively with patient advocacy groups, such as INCIID, RESOLVE and the American Fertility Association, serves on Medical Advisory Councils, writes articles on patients, organizes online chat rooms, serves as Web Angel in the AFA and IRMS messaging boards and lectures at many patient education seminars. In 2005, the AFA recognized her efforts with the Family Building Award.
Dr. Chen is married to an obstetrician and gynecologist and has two children who adore baseball.
