The WikiLeaks founder has tweeted two times since his account came back online, though neither one addresses the reason for the disappearance.
It accused Twitter of deleting Assange's account to silence him ahead of a major story. The tweet was subsequently deleted, but you can see a screenshot here. There's no mention of what might've happened to Assange's account on the Wikileaks account.
The big mystery may be that Assange (or whomever else has the keys to his account) accidentally clicked something and didn't realize it until later.
The account was wiped from Twitter sometime Christmas Eve leaving many to guess whether the social media company deleted his account before a supposed new blockbuster release or if Assange erased the account himself.
"#JulianAssange has been deleted off of twitter".
The account does not appear to have been suspended by Twitter, and the most recent cached version of his account suggests he had not tweeted since Friday.
The mysterious disappearance - and re-appearance - of the account proved even more freaky when the U.S. Navy on Christmas morning mistakenly tweeted out Assange's full name, in quotes, and nothing else.
However, an archive of the WikiLeaks founder's microblog can be easily found on the Internet.
Assange has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012.
Assange is now living at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, which granted him political asylum in 2012.
