Star Wars: The Last Jedi - tributes to Carrie Fisher at LA premiere

The Awards Circuit Twitter posted this announcement by Disney which features all of the categories they are pushing Star Wars: The Last Jedi for in the upcoming Oscars race.

And everyone else posting online is following suit. The first reactions to the highly-anticipated follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens have been nearly universally positive.

"'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' is so very different, exciting, surprising". The Force Awakens was a mostly great movie, but I can't say anything in it surprised me.

"There hasn't been a "Star Wars" movie yet that has explored war the way "The Last Jedi" has", said Boyega.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.

Experts are predicting an opening weekend domestic box office of around $220 million, which would push it beyond "Jurassic World" (2015) into second place behind "Awakens" ($248 million). Wookiedelphia, Philly's only "Star Wars"-themed brass band, will perform before in the PFS cantina".

Rian Johnson, director of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", grew up in Colorado. "I hope they like it", he said.

Directed by Rian Johnson, the film has not been without its troubles: there were script rewrites and reshoots, not to mention the tragic death of Carrie Fisher at the end of a year ago while filming was still underway.
