Jimmy Garoppolo Named 49ers Starter For Week 13

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will make his first start since joining San Francisco when the 49ers play the Chicago Bears on Sunday, ESPN reported Tuesday.

The 49ers traded for Garoppolo to become the franchise quarterback.

Rookie C.J. Beathard hurt his hip and knee and was forced out of Sunday's loss to Seattle in the fourth quarter.

Garoppolo completed both passes, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy.

Shanahan made it clear from the start he was in no rush to shove Garoppolo into the lineup, but with each passing week, fans and pundits alike wondered what the team was waiting for. "That's up to Jimmy and how it works out here and we're going to work our best to get him ready". He made his debut with his new team on Sunday in mop-up duty after Beathard left with a leg injury. In two starts with the Patriots, he threw four touchdowns, zero interceptions, and had a rating of 120.8. The 49ers (1-10) play Sunday against the Chicago Bears (3-8) in Soldier Field, located about 30 miles from Garoppolo's hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

None of his 96 career passes have been intercepted. Beathard was given the start against the Seahawks after the bye, completing 22 of 38 for 201 yards with no touchdowns and an interception.

If he does want to become a franchise quarterback, Garoppolo will have to prove his worth in the final five games of the 49ers season.

Shanahan said Monday he wanted his starting quarterback to take all the necessary reps in practice to prepare for Sunday and there questions as to Beathard's availability for Wednesday's practice.
