Hulu video app is now available for the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch always seemed like the ideal console to pull double duty as a portable video player, but so far there's been a conspicuous lack of any streaming service.

The news was initially revealed in Nintendo's weekly email, much to the confusion of fans who weren't expecting the streaming service to be a part of this week's update.

Starting today, Hulu subscribers can use their Nintendo Switch to stream their favorite content from Hulu no matter where they might be. No word yet on when Nintendo fans from Europe and other regions can start streaming on their Switches.

Hulu apps are already available for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It was...until today! We are very proud to announce that Hulu is the first U.S. streaming entertainment service to debut on Nintendo Switch! Now Switch owners will be able to watch Hulu exclusives, such as the Emmy-winning The Handmaid's Tale, as well as shows catalogued only on Hulu, like the Emmy-winning This is Us, both at home or on the go.

Other popular streaming services are still missing, namely Netflix and YouTube. In our view, these are not differentiators.

For a long time, Nintendo has been the joke among the arsenal of console gaming and entertainment.

KitGuru Says: Although it's surely inevitable that Netflix will make its way to the device, it might take some time as the Switch has been slow to adopt mainstay service as a whole in its 8-month life. More games are on the way in the form of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Wolfenstein 2 later this year and early into next year.
