The White House July 2015

Happy Fourth of July to everyone! Like many of you, Michelle, Sasha, Malia and I will spend the day outdoors, grilling hamburgers and sausages and watching the fireworks with family and friends. Today is also Malia's birthday, making the Four especially fun for us.

As always, we have invited some very special guests to our outdoor barbecue, hundreds of members of our forces armed forces and their families. On this holiday, the most American of all, we remember that all who serve here in our country and abroad represent what today symbolizes. We remember that their families also serve with them. And we are grateful for your service and your sacrifice.

We also remember that this is the day 239 years ago, our founding patriots declared our independence, proclaiming that all of us have been created equal, our Creator has endowed us with certain inalienable rights including the right to life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness.

A couple of centuries later, we have become a big, bold, dynamic and diverse country. We are of all races, of all places, of all religions, and we believe in all sorts of different ideas. But our loyalty to this statement, this idea, is the belief that unites us. It is what, of many, makes us one.

On this day we honor them. We honor all those who continually strive to make this country better, stronger and more promising. And we the people, we promise to do our homework, in order to secure the promise of our founding words to our children and the children of our children. Finally, what better weekend than this for encourage the EE team. UU. Good luck to the US women's national soccer team. UU. in the World Cup Final!

Thank you all. From my family to their families, we wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July.
