Emenalo Quits Chelsea over Row with Conte

Conte is the 10th manager Emenalo has worked with and the former Notts County player has always been viewed as the great survivor of the Abramovich era. He has already been linked with a position at Monaco.

Emenalo said it had been a hard decision to make, adding: "I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most talented people in the world of sport over the past 10 years and I will depart incredibly proud of the achievements we have made". I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most talented people in the world of sport over the past 10 years, and I will depart incredibly proud of the achievements we have made.

Chelsea said Emenalo had "contributed to a period of unprecedented success for the first team and academy".

Chairman Bruce Buck expressed regret at Emenalo's departure. I wish Chelsea every success and look forward to following the club's future triumphs from afar, ' he added.

Emenalo is understood to have a friendly relationship with current boss Antonio Conte but there have been reports of tensions behind the scenes over the club's transfer dealings.

It is how the management structure at Chelsea adapts in response to Emenalo's exit that will be most telling of both the reason why he left and who it benefits though, while the next couple of transfer windows should also make for interesting viewing.

The move may be viewed in some quarters as a victory for Conte, but Emenalo has remained supportive of the Italian who he helped to appoint past year.

The Italian's own future is said to be in some doubt but Emenalo has beaten him out of the door.
