Jose Mourinho confirms Manchester United wanted Nemanja Matic, not Eric Dier

Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, claimed at his pre-match press conference on Friday that despite being linked with a £50 million for Dier during the summer transfer window, eventual recruit Nemanja Matic was always his preferred target.

And it appears Mourinho's comments have not been well received by the former Tottenham defender Roberts, who referred to the 54-year-old as a "motor mouth" in a Twitter message to Dier afterwards.

"I don't speak about injured players so don't ask me about HarryKane, because to speak about Harry Kane I have to speak about [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, about [Paul] Pogba, about [Marcos] Rojo, about [Michael] Carrick, so I don't speak".

"Phil Jones is good, he was on the bench on Tuesday", he said, offering an update on his squad.

Jose Mourinho was asked about Luke Shaw's future and had no interest, instead offering an opinion about the contract stand-off with Marouane Fellaini.

"Luke Shaw was just honest".

"If you want to speak about his words I would be very disappointed if his words were different".

"I was happy because it shows dignity, character and intelligence to know the reason why we lost the match".

Mourinho admitted Shaw's chances of a recall were remote.

"He has a future here but the situation is not easy because he comes from injury after injury after injury he needs two, three, four, five or six matches in a row to play, to make mistakes, to get condition, to get match fitness and I can not give him that".

"He has a future here, I think he has, but the situation is not easy because he comes from injury after injury after injury".
