Fromm became the starter for Georgia after sophomore Jacob Eason was injured in the team's opening game against Appalachian State.
Georgia (3-0) is off to a strong start in Kirby Smart's second season as coach. "We knew coming up the game they were going to try something".
Mississippi State is 3-0, 1-0 in the SEC, while Georgia is 3-0. More importantly, the secondary that had been questioneda earlier in the season was very successful, keeping the Mississippi State offense at bay and collecting two interceptions by Dominick Sanders and Deandre Baker.
That one was in Starkville.
When Georgia went against Notre Dame, quarterback Brandon Wimbush was unable to get much on the ground. A 15-yard illegal block call on Georgia moved the ball back to the Mississippi State 41 and Georgia moved the ball 10 yards in six plays to set the stage for a Blankenship field goal, this one from 49 yards out. Surely if those other Bulldogs could do that, you might think, then surely they could end their nine-game losing streak within these city limits, and they also could defeat Georgia for just the second time in the past 12 meetings between the two. And we don't play them again, I guess, because of the way the schedule works, for another seven years. "There's some uniqueness in it". Past year against Tennessee, Georgia almost won a thriller but lost on a long touchdown pass by Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs with four seconds remaining. When facing Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. last season, Georgia faltered early and suffered its first loss of the season 45-14.
Georgia's lack of success in similar in-conference matchups certainly made Georgia fans nervous going into Saturday's game. Fitzgerald proved every bit as tough when trying to get his team back into the game after facing the early two-score deficit. "I don't really have a chip on my shoulder or anything like that". Mississippi State rarely had any room to make a play after the catch. According to Dawg Nation, Jake Fromm will start against Mississippi State.More news: LG V30 takes its screen all the way to the edges
By the time Murray was introduced midway through the first quarter along with other former Bulldogs, Georgia was ahead 14-0 and the visiting Bulldogs were spinning their offensive wheels. Fromm went in motion to the right, Chubb took a direct snap and took off around left end on a 28-yard TD without being touched. "Georgia's back being that top dog and being the Georgia Bulldogs that we are". "He's making better decisions more consistently, which for us, the quarterback position is a decision-making position". "We're going to keep playing our brand of football: fast, physical, fly around to the ball". "Luckily we were able to get this kid to come here, because where would we be without him?" "As long as he does that, we can play winning football".
Fromm's first pass of the game was a 59-yard touchdown strike to receiver Terry Godwin off a flea-flicker.
As it was, Smart said Eason couldn't have played Saturday even if he wanted to, given that he hadn't been medically cleared just yet. Both 3-0 Bulldogs entered the game bearing promise and questions.
In the fourth quarter, the Georgia defense faced two red-zone situations and held tight both times, stopping Mississippi State at the 11 with 4:12 remaining and snuffing out their opponents' best scoring opportunity of the night at the 1-yard line as time expired.
"We have to be aware of where he is always", Georgia fullback Christian Payne said.
Ditto for Georgia outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter, who had a huge game at Notre Dame with 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 sack.
