Jaguars to start QB Henne on Thursday

"I'm sure both quarterbacks would have liked to have done a better job, but offensively I think everyone needs to do a better job", Marrone said after the third preseason game.

On Thursday, Henne completed 8-of-14 passes for 73 yards in the first half against Carolina.

He did not see much success as a rookie, completing less than 59 percent of his passes and throwing 11 touchdowns against 17 interceptions while compiling a 3-10 record as the starter.

Bortles had something of a breakout season in 2015, but came crashing back to earth past year.

The Jaguars' season - as well as his time in Jacksonville - depends on him proving he's a better quarterback than he has been in the first three seasons of his career.

While Bortles gets the call for Week 1, nobody will be shocked if he's pulled in short order.

That risk didn't outweigh the potential rewards they saw from playing Henne, at least not right out of the gate, and that leaves the Jags right back where they started this summer.

Bortles, who did not take his first snap until the Jaguars' first possession of the third quarter, said he was satisfied with his effort coming off the bench.

Blake Bortles is on the verge of losing his starting job with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and many are wondering if his horrendous throws in the preseason are the result of some sort of injury. Head coach Doug Marrone explained during his press conference that "I look at everything, not just the quarterback position" when discussing why he picked Bortles over Henne.

"It's this simple. I'm looking for the best person to lead this offense", Marrone said. "I don't think you give X position a longer period than you do a defensive-tackle position or a corner position".

He has started every Jaguars game since week four of the 2014 season, which was his first in the National Football League after being selected with the third overall pick.

"Might have to go for another quarterback".

Blake Bortles has continued to look shaky for the Jaguars, and his future with the team may be even less certain.

We've got great news for Jacksonville Jaguars fans! "I think no one really hurt themselves as far as the practice goes, which I pretty much expected".
