Winning $758M Powerball ticket sold in western MA

One powerball ticket among the millions sold across the country has made someone in MA a very rich person.

Massachusetts Lottery Executive Director Michael Sweeney said officials were manually recording the names of the retailers that sold the winning ticket and transcribed it incorrectly.

Wanczyk purchased the winning Powerball ticket at the Pride Station & Store in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

It is not clear how the error was made.

Three tickets worth $200,000 were sold at Upstate convenience stores.

Smith told the Florida Lottery that she had played the lottery - and bought tickets with the same six numbers - for years before winning the jackpot.

Thursday morning, MA lottery officials announced that the wrong store sold the winning Powerball ticket.

The mammoth jackpot accumulated over the course of weeks after 20 straight winner-less drawings. Secondary prizes go all the way down to $4 for those who had only the Powerball number correct.

The winning numbers were 06-07-16-23-26, with a Powerball number of 04. The jackpot now resets to $40 million.

Powerball is played in 44 states in the U.S., plus D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. A 53-year-old MA hospital worker came forward to claim the prize. Each took home US$528.8 million.
