Calm down, internet. Elon's Musk-see SpaceX spacesuit is a bit generic

ArsTechnica says the suit is not specifically a spacesuit, but is instead a flight suit created to be worn "during the ride to space and again on the ride back down to Earth". Elon Musk has recently posted a picture on his Instagram page that shows off great-looking space suit. According to Musk, the suit is capable of withstanding twice the pressure of the vacuum of space, based on testing that has been done.

Musk in his tweets has acknowledged that the suit itself is very white and very spacey. "Easy to do either separately", he writes.

The Verge was the first to spot the photo.

For comparison, have a look at the spacesuit Boeing announced in January.

As the Orlando Sentinel noted Wednesday, the suit is not designed for work outside of spacecraft - a point raised by many in the commenters.

It may look like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but this design has been revealed as SpaceX's futuristic new spacesuit by chief executive Elon Musk.

On Wednesday, the mogul took to Instagram to offer the first glimpse of the space suits these courageous women or men will wear. If all goes to plan, it would be the first private company to send humans into space. Named Starliner, the modern suits feature plenty of blue, sneaker-like boots and Velcro. Both Boeing and SpaceX are expected to launch their first crewed missions at around the same time, possibly next year.

Two years ago, when the design for the spacesuit was still being worked through, Musk promised it would be suave.

The suit is meant to be worn by astronauts in case the Dragon capsule depressurizes.

Ladies and gentleman, meet the SpaceX spacesuit.
