Family of Australian killed by U.S. police demands answers

On May 25, Noor was one of three officers who responded to the home of Theresa Graham, who'd called police several times that day.

She had called police to report what she believed to be a possible sexual assault in the quiet neighbourhood and had gone up to the vehicle to speak to the officers inside.

In addition to why she was shot, authorities are probing why the officers' body cameras were turned off during the incident. Now, Noor and Harrity are both on paid administrative leave.

Thomas Plunkett, a lawyer representing Noor, released a statement on Monday confirming that Noor was the officer who fatally shot Damond, MPR News reported.

Minneapolis Officer Mohamed Noor, 31, has two open complaints against him and was recently named in a lawsuit.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), which is doing the investigation into the shooting, says no dash cam video of the incident exists either.

Damond had moved to Minneapolis from Australia to be with her fiancé and had taken his last name in advance of their planned marriage next month. "We only ask that the light of justice shine down on the circumstances of her death", he said.

Chilling new audio has been released of the moments before and after the police shooting of Damond, formerly Justine Ruszczyk, a trained veterinarian and motivational healer who grew up on Sydney's Northern Beaches. The woman's fiancé, Don Diamond, is pleading with police to have them explain what happened.

In failing to turn on their body cameras, the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota accused the officers of thwarting "the public's right to know" what happened to Ruszczyk.

"The other officer who didn't have a gun in his hand, he could have done that little double tap on the camera on his chest at any time", said Bicking, describing how the cameras are put into record mode.

Just learned Officer Noor "went to Augsburg college and is well respected person in the Somali community".

She said there are a lot of unanswered questions - many of which she's pushing to get the answers to as quickly as possible.

"I also want to assure you that I understand why so many people have so many questions at this point", Harteau said in a statement Monday.

"I am heartsick and deeply disturbed by the fatal officer-involved shooting that happened last night", Hodges said.

According to her website, she is a "qualified yoga instructor, a personal health and life coach and meditation teacher".

Damond ran meditation workshops at Lake Harriet Spiritual Community and gave presentations on the "neuroscience" behind energy healing. "I know the neighborhood well".

Mayor Betsy Hodges said she, too, is in the dark. Castile's girlfriend, who was in the auto along with her four-year-old daughter, live-streamed the aftermath of the killing on Facebook.

"My mom is dead, because a police officer shot her, for reasons I don't know, and I demand answers", he said in a tearful Facebook Live video.
