Predictions For The Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone 8

The company plans to drop fingerprint recognition from the new OLED iPhone. - To work around this, according to Kuo the front camera system on the iPhone 8 will support 3D depth sensing, enabling facial recognition authentication and "improved" selfies.

The Apple iPhone 8 is among the smartphone industry's most anticipated releases this year and as with past iPhone releases, the iPhone 8 has also been subject to its share of rumors over its potential features. The feature could reportedly scan a user's face and unlock the phone within a few hundred milliseconds, and it's said to work when the phone is laying on a table as well as when the user is holding the phone to their face. But Ming-Chi Kuo apparently expects that the firm will not be able to pull the engineering feat off - meaning Touch ID could disappear from the front of the iPhone for the first time since its introduction in the iPhone 5s in 2013 (though it will not be removed entirely).

"Kuo sees and all-new design with a 5.2" screen (or 5.8" depending on the definition of screen size in use) OLED iPhone, along with two new LCD models including 4.7" & 5.5" version.

9to5Mac got hold of the report and it even elaborates on features like the 5.8-inch OLED display (5.2-inch usable after removing the function area from below).

This adds credibility to other reports that showed that Apple has been working on a variant that features a fingerprint reader relegated to the back of the phone, below the Apple logo. All three phones will include faster, more efficient processors based on a 10-nanometer production process, people familiar with the products said. Apple is also testing additional gestures, such as swiping across the center of the screen to launch actions, to replace the home button.

The report cites a new dedicated chip internally referred to as the Apple Neural Engine which will help drive the ProMotion display as well as artificial intelligence tasks.
