Putin, Trump will likely have contact on sidelines of G20: Lavrov

Reports about the resistance to Trump meeting Putin suggests that some are wanting to organize a formal meeting of the United States and Russian delegations, but without the two presidents involved. "Indeed, their best spokesperson is the President of the United States, because he's the one casting doubt on what they did", he said.

A former American ambassador who served in both the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush slammed President Donald Trump for casting doubt as to whether Russian Federation was responsible for cyber attacks against the US during last year's presidential election.

Members of his campaign are also under investigation for possible collusion with Russian Federation in the lead-up to the election.

Burns criticized Obama for not doing more as it became apparent during last year's election that Russian Federation was trying to interfere.

"In many ways its meddling in European elections over the past year has produced the exact opposite of what was intended", she said.

"It appears that they took the warning seriously", Mattis said, referring to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying it had not launched any new chemical attacks.

The US is "very poorly prepared" if the Russians interfere in the upcoming midterm elections, he added.

"I would completely agree with that", the California Democrat said on "The Lead" Wednesday.
