EU leaders to back closer defence ties, Paris climate accord - summit draft

Pruitt made clear the US takes a backseat to no country in protecting the environment, but made it equally clear, the Paris climate agreement was neither the only way nor even a good way to protect the environment and thus the USA was withdrawing from the treaty.

U.S. President Donald Trump started June with a decision to renegotiate national commitments to the climate deal or leave it altogether.

"Companies, states and local governments throughout the United States have already begun to fill the void left by this administration's actions, leading the way on clean-energy initiatives and reducing our carbon footprint", Polis wrote.

We can not afford to fall behind on climate action. The argument is a bit like Woody Allen's joke about two women at a resort: "One of 'em says, 'Boy, the food at this place is really awful.' The other one says, 'Yeah, I know; and such small portions'".

"Everything else for us is excluded", he said.

The ministers issued a non-binding climate and environment statement attesting to the "irreversibility" of the landmark Paris Agreement and committing to taking a variety of actions to slash greenhouse gas emissions that are warming the planet.

The Paris Climate Accord (2015) arrived at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change set a goal of "well below 2 degrees C" for temperature rise and instituted a regime of financing of developing economies and provision of technical help to make the transition.

There are three main agencies in the United States government concerned with fighting global warming - the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Interior. Since then mechanization has greatly decreased employment in coal mining.

The main trigger for this sudden role reversal was President Donald Trump's June 1 announcement that the USA would withdraw from the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change, and now we're starting to see the ripple effects of that decision.

French minister Nicolas Hulot said U.S. allies were determined not to let Trump's controversial climate stance "poison" cooperation on other ecological issues, and said the world could work around the USA position, even though it is a damaging one.

The Paris Agreement is a step targeted at transforming the global economy into a sustainable model, in light of a long-term goal for sustainable global prosperity and well-being.

Graham was the first candidate to vow that Florida would join Washington, New York, and California in an alliance to uphold the Paris Accord, though King and Gillum quickly followed.

It says the six G-7 nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, as well as the European Commission - agree that the Paris accord is "irreversible and its full integrity is key for the security and prosperity of our planet, societies and economies".

The world's most powerful President played a victim's card in announcing the decision to quit claiming that the Paris Accord placed the U.S. in disadvantageous position and more than that, placed India and China in the most advantageous situation.

Despite the pressure from all sides, including other world leaders, some Congressional Republicans and presumably Tillerson, Trump early this month made a decision to take the USA out of the accord that was championed by his predecessor Barack Obama.
