EU leaders to back closer defence ties, Paris climate accord - summit draft

Pruitt made clear the US takes a backseat to no country in protecting the environment, but made it equally clear, the Paris climate agreement was neither the only way nor even a good way to protect the environment and thus the USA was withdrawing from the treaty.

The main trigger for this sudden role reversal was President Donald Trump's June 1 announcement that the USA would withdraw from the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change, and now we're starting to see the ripple effects of that decision.
French minister Nicolas Hulot said U.S. allies were determined not to let Trump's controversial climate stance "poison" cooperation on other ecological issues, and said the world could work around the USA position, even though it is a damaging one.
The Paris Agreement is a step targeted at transforming the global economy into a sustainable model, in light of a long-term goal for sustainable global prosperity and well-being.
Graham was the first candidate to vow that Florida would join Washington, New York, and California in an alliance to uphold the Paris Accord, though King and Gillum quickly followed.
It says the six G-7 nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, as well as the European Commission - agree that the Paris accord is "irreversible and its full integrity is key for the security and prosperity of our planet, societies and economies".

Despite the pressure from all sides, including other world leaders, some Congressional Republicans and presumably Tillerson, Trump early this month made a decision to take the USA out of the accord that was championed by his predecessor Barack Obama.
