Incident involving 'man with weapon in terminal' reported at Orlando airport

- Law enforcement officers are responding to an armed man who is inside one of the parking garages at Orlando International Airport.

The man was not in custody.

Police officers are communicating with the man at a rental vehicle location inside Level 1, Airside A. According to authorities, he has not harmed anyone or himself, but right now, officers are attempting to get the man to relinquish the weapon.

Orlando police urged people not to put out unconfirmed information on Tuesday night during what appeared to be a chaotic scene at the airport.

A government source said police have the man surrounded and are trying to get him to surrender his weapon.

Glorializ Colon Plaza, 20, said she was just getting off work from Virgin Atlantic airline when she saw everyone hiding.

"I couldn't make out the words, but he was screaming really loud", she said. "It didn't seem real".

Airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said the armed man was on the first floor of the airport in the rental-car area. The entire terminal was eventually closed. The first floor has been cleared and Terminal A has been locked down. Images posted on social media showed a heavy police presence in the area and passengers were anxious about missing flights. Police referred calls to the spokeswoman.

All roads leading into the airport have been shut down.

Earlier this year, authorities say an Alaska man killed five people inside a baggage claim area at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
