Cleveland calls up ex-USF outfielder Bradley Zimmer

He was rated as the Indians' third-best prospect earlier this year by ESPN's Keith Law.

Bradley Zimmer has been in Cleveland for two days.

Utility man Yandy Diaz was optioned to Triple A Columbus.

The 27-year-old outfielder will be shut down for three to five weeks before he returns to major league activity.

Zimmer drove in 14 runs, scored another 22 and drew 14 walks against 43 strikeouts.

RHP Danny Salazar had an odd start Tuesday. So far, two hits, including a home run. "We've had some guys that have pitched good games, but we haven't strung together enough consistent outings as a group to give our team a chance to win and that falls on us". Almonte is batting.221 with one homer and six RBIs in 33 games. "When he made a mistake he really paid for it".

Almonte was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday. "He had an MRI today, but we don't have any timetable on how long he will be out", manager Terry Francona said.

The Cleveland Indians have called up outfielder Bradley Zimmer, their first-round draft pick in 2014, from Triple-A Columbus.

"I think [Tuesday], the game went by pretty quickly", Zimmer said. In 126 at-bats at Columbus, Zimmer was hitting.294 with a.532 slugging percentage and.902 OPS.

The Indians chipped away against Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb (4-3) but for the second straight day ran out of time. Right-hander Carlos Carrasco was removed from Monday's game because of a strained left pectoral muscle and will have his next start pushed back to May 23 in Cincinnati.
