Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner file for divorce

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have filed divorce petitions, the first step in formally ending their marriage more than a year after they publicly declared their relationship was over. The two had lived together as a couple for a little over a decade before they separated and are now headed for a divorce.

They announced their intention to divorce in June 2015, after 10 years of marriage, but did not file documents until now. Another publication claimed that Garner was pregnant with Affleck and that she was carrying twin babies in her womb.

The joint filing came pro per - without lawyers - suggesting it was orchestrated amicably. The couple have three minor children - Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Sam, 5, - and according to the court papers.

There was also no prenup when the two got married so unless they decide otherwise, everything's getting split up 50/50.

Speaking to People magazine, the insider added: 'Nothing has changed, they are and still will be putting their kids first'.

Both stars want joint and physical custody of their children. Just last month, in a public Facebook post, Affleck thanked Garner for her support during his stint in rehab.

In a previous interview, Garner said the "nanny" issue wasn't a big deal to her because they made a decision to break up long before the story was all over the tabloids. The continuation of 'Will they or won't they?' has been speculation for everyone else - but they've been working on what works for them and the family. and that's been their priority the entire time.

The insider claimed at the time: "They have maintained such a strong and handsome united front to stay lovely and classy towards each other for their kids".
