Delta says 150 more flights canceled as storm effects linger

Delta Chief Operating Officer Gil West apologized to frustrated customers Thursday, saying the midweek storms had been "unprecedented" and tough to forecast.

"The specific track and intensity of weather like this is often hard to forecast", West said in remarks on Thursday. "We, as always, learn from these experiences". Delta advised travelers to check its website and mobile app because more flights may be canceled.

Last year, the airline logged 161 days without a cancellation on its mainline.

According to an airline statement, "Operations are stabilizing Sunday". Delta is also offering to waive change fees for those who rebook their plans. Others called the Delta customer service reservations lines and were on hold for hours before agents could answer.

Several factors aggravated the air-travel headaches.

The world's busiest airport has hit a major slowdown and after thousands of flight cancellations over the past few days, passengers are fed up.

The airline said it canceled about 275 flights Saturday, and at least half a dozen flights to Raleigh-Durham Airport were either canceled or delayed.

"There's a ground hold at (New York's) LaGuardia so they may pull us off this plane", Goldklang told CNN from aboard a flight, her fourth attempt to get out of Savannah Friday evening.

She said they were able to get refunds on the flights and nearly everything else they had booked for the spring break trip, and they managed to get last minute reservations to leave Monday for the Cayman Islands. Goldklang's flight finally left Savannah for NY, 61 minutes late.

And despite all that maneuvering, they still missed the 80th birthday of Wayne's mother.
