PlayStation's YouTube Channel Provides A Closer Look At Ghost In The Shell

The video, a bit more than a clip at over 9 minutes, is available on the PlayStation YouTube channel and streams at up to 1080p resolution.

"Ghost in the Shell" hits theaters Friday, and despite rampant backlash for casting Caucasian movie star Scarlett Johansson in a role originally previously filled by a Japanese character, the majority of critics are giving the action flick two thumbs up.

Johansson stars as The Major, a first-of-her-kind human-cyborg hybrid, created to fight the growing threat of cyber-terrorism. She wasn't turned into this soldier because she was about to die; she was about to die because somebody wanted to turn her into a soldier.

The film itself samples storyline elements from TV series Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex S1 and S2.

★★★★☆ "We cling to memories as if they define us, but they don't". It turns out their hunch is right, as they fall under attack by a group of cybernetic enemies and gunmen, being run by a mysterious hacker in a remote location. She is Major, an android weapon trademarked by the Hanka robotics company, built to battle cyberterrorism. She then questions her decisions and looks over an injury as her partner arrives, and she disappears from the scene.

"The best thing "Ghost in the Shell" has going for it is that it doesn't strive to be a frame-for-frame remake of Mamoru Oshii's 1995 anime film", critic Terri Schwartz wrote.
