Truecaller, Google tie-up to improve video calling experience

But one of the most significant newcomers to Truecaller app is integration with Google Duo, Google's video calling app for Android and iOS. This year, potentially, 60 million 4G feature phones will be sold in India.

Truecaller today at its first "Stay Ahead" event announced its largest ever brand and product transformation. The service will be rolled out pan India on all feature phones having an Airtel SIM inside.

Truecaller also announced a first of it's kind partnership with Airtel to launch "Airtel Truecaller ID" to extends the caller ID feature of Truecaller to Airtel's non-data users using feature phones, and will be delivered to users via Flash SMS before the call hits the users mobile. Users can make calls directly from the Truecaller app and the call history will show up in the log as well.

If you're new to Truecaller, the Swedish startup was founded in 2009 and since built a solid reputation for its crowdsourced approach to helping users flag rogue callers, identify unknown numbers, and block those deemed as "spam".

"Truecaller Pay" can be accessed conveniently via the "Send money through UPI" tab on Truecaller app's profile page.

Through the Truecaller Android app, users will now be able to identify rogue SMS messages in addition to calls, meaning they can filter out those pesky spam texts.

Truecaller, the popular, crowd-sourced and initially controversial app that is the bane of spammers everywhere, has now received some major updates.

Truecaller has joined hands with Google to introduce video calling services besides a slew of new services. All feature phone users with Airtel mobile service can now use "Airtel Truecaller ID" to see who's calling.
