Carr is now 30 years old, and is coming off a season where Pro Football Focus ranked him as the number 52 overall cornerback in the NFL.
Brandon Carr signed a four-year deal with Baltimore, the organization announced.
"We got better today", Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told The Associated Press. It has the potential to be worth $24 million, but will more likely end up a two-year, $12 million signing. Presumably, the guarantees won't impact their ability to dump Clairborne after a year if it's a multi-year deal.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the four-year deal has multiple options that allow the team flexibility. Carr holds the longest active streak of consecutive starts among National Football League cornerbacks with 144.More news: Cavaliers plan to waive Bogut
Carr, who turns 31 in May, is a steady player at the cornerback position who has been one of the more reliable players at his position for quite some time.
Carr, who went a stretch of 36 straight games without an interception before picking off Giants quarterback Eli Manning in the 2016 season opener, is coming off his best season, finishing with nine pass deflections, a quarterback pressure, a tackle for loss and 61 tackles with Dallas. Carr's consistent availability was likely one of the most appealing factors to the Ravens.
Claiborne reportedly had some interest from the Baltimore Ravens. After the release of Darrelle Revis, the Jets need quality corners. They hoped he'd anchor their secondary for years to come, but injuries have kept Claiborne from reaching his true potential.
