Boeing's bigger 737 MAX 9 emerges from Renton plant

If you were an airline planning to buy a lot of new single aisle jets Boeing's 737 MAX family might be of slightly confused interest this week.

In a standard two-class configuration, the MAX 9 can accommodate 178 passengers vs. the MAX 8's 162, and both have the same 3,515NM range.

The LEAP-1B-powered Boeing 737 MAX began flight tests in January 2016 and the engine has performed exceptionally well in more than 2,200 aircraft flight hours. The 737 MAX 8 type-certification test program including flight-testing four aircraft, plus ground and laboratory testing.

FAA granted Boeing an Amended Type Certificate for the 737 MAX 8, verifying the design complies with required aviation regulations and is safe and reliable. "Our primary focus is delivering an aircraft that has the legendary reliability our 737 customers depend on, plus the optimised flexibility and range capability they desire".

Boeing said it is preparing to deliver its first Max 8s in the coming months.

However it also released earlier more details, and an official graphic (below), of a minor stretch of the MAX 9, the MAX 10, via Twitter, to delegates and media at the ISTAT trade show in San Diego.

Meanwhile Boeing's 737 Max 8 is due to begin delivery in the second quarter of this year, which will be followed by the smaller Max 7 and higher-capacity Max 200.

It is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, accumulating more than 3,600 orders to date from 83 customers worldwide.
