Dallas Mavericks Star Dirk Nowitzki Reaches Rare NBA Accomplishment: 30000 Points

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki became just the sixth player in history to score 30,000 points in an National Basketball Association career Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored 26 points per game in the NBA Finals as the Mavs upset Lebron James and the Miami Heat in six games. Here's what Dirk had to say about his historic night, per ESPN. For the rest of us, though, the best part was getting to remember one of the all-time great 90s butt cuts. "I'm watching the game right now", the 32-year-old said in a video message.

"It's been sort of surreal - 30,000 is fantastic, a lot of points", Nowitzki after the game.

Nowitzki waded through the huddle to get to the bench for more hugs and hand slaps, then returned to the court to acknowledge the standing ovation.

Oklahoma's Russell Westbrook scored a career-high 58 points but was still on the losing side as the Thunder went down 126-121 to Portland.

Dallas recorded a franchise record 14th straight win over Los Angeles, for whom Julius Randle recorded a triple-double with 13 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.

"Every milestone makes you reflect a little bit", Nowitzki said. It was the fourth-straight loss for the struggling Thunder, who also couldn't stop Portland guard Allen Crabbe, who scored 23 points off the bench. And he says it's a credit to Nowitzki's ability to play into his late 30s.

"It's been an wonderful ride, and hopefully a couple of more baskets are coming and then it's time to ride off into the sunset".

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement regarding Nowtizki's achievement.
