Two Whittier Police officers and a suspect were wounded Monday in an officer-involved shooting.
The suspect had been driving a stolen vehicle that he crashed in the area of Colima Road and Mar Vista Street, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. John Corina.
A California police officer is dead and another injured following a shootout Monday morning.
Corina told reporters the suspect was driving his auto and rear-ended other cars that were waiting at a stoplight.
Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo said the suspect was treated for gunshot wounds.
An investigation was underway after three people, including two officers, were shot in Whittier on February 20, 2017.
Whitter police said on Twitter that they were investigating an officer-involved shooting in the area of Colima Road and Mar Vista Street.
"It's extremely tragic", Corina said.
The wounded officer was in stable condition, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
Few details have been released about the incident, and it was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting.
In the midst of a pat down, Corina said the man pulled out a gun and started shooting. Investigators did not know why the suspect opened fire.
