Gears of War 4 Gets Social Cross-Play Mode

Gears of War 4 was The Coalition's first take on the series, and it introduced some changes that weren't necessarily related to gameplay. After testing the waters with a cross-play weekend previous year, The Coalition has announced that cross-play between platforms will now be available permanently on the Social Quickplay playlist. Microsoft announced today that it is enabling Gears of War 4 multiplayer cross-play between Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. The video game developer claimed that from the test period, gamers on Xbox One and PC had around the same level of skill.

The announcement comes about a month after Microsoft ran a test weekend on Gears of War 4 for cross-platform multiplayer. Microsoft was encouraged to go through with crossplay following its Test Weekend results late previous year that saw over 750,000 matches played across Xbox One and Windows 10 PC platforms, involving over 115,000 unique particpants. Social Quickplay was officially listed in the cross-play playlist on January 27. It is available only for PC and Xbox One.

We've known that Microsoft had big plans for cross-play in its flagship third-person shooter franchise for some time.

The Core and Competitive modes will remain platform independent as The Coalition wants to ensure its Ranked experiences are as closely matched and competitive as possible.

After reviewing Gears of War 4 fan feedback and forum discussions from the cross-play Test Weekend, Social Quickplay will now be an option on the cross-play playlist. 115,000 players had come up to participate in the matches, and the scores were said to have average KD results that were so close that they have chose to include cross-play in the game.
