Children abducted in 1985 found, mother arrested; Rhode Island police say

- Two sisters who disappeared from Rhode Island with their mother in 1985 have been located in the Houston area, and their mother was charged with snatching them, police announced Tuesday.

"I always hoped this day would happen", Russell Yates told the Providence Journal.

Elaine Yates allegedly abducted her two daughters, Kimberly and Kelly Yates, from Warwick on August 26, 1985. Both Texas Rangers and Rhode Island State Police were present when apprehending Yates, now 69 years old.

According to the New York Times in 1990, Yates sued Mary Pigeon and insisted she knew the children's whereabouts.

Authorities said Kimberly and Kelly are living in the Houston area, and that both women have been provided contact information for their father, Russell M. Yates Jr., who led a high-profile effort to find his daughters in the early 1990s.

Officials say they were found in Houston, Texas.

Police said Kimberly and Kelly Yates were "interviewed", but their current identities will not be released. But it wasn't until they received the anonymous tip that they cracked the case. Their mother, who did not have custody of them, was arrested.

More than 30 years after two young girls went missing, investigators say they've been found and their mother has been arrested. She was arrested on Monday without incident and faces arraignment Wednesday in Rhode Island on a fugitive charge. Their father Russell Yates says his 3 decade search has finally ended. Instead, his desires are simple, "I just want to see my kids".
