BHIM app for UPI-based cashless transactions goes live

The app has has an approval rating of 4.1 and can be downloaded here. The app, released in the memory of Dr BR Ambedkar is now only available on the Android platform, with the iOS app expected to launch on 10 January.
Bharat Interface for Money or BHIM, is an Aadhaar-based mobile payment application and has been named after the main architect of Indian constitution, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
This made BHIM app different from others.
In a bid to further push adoption of e-payments in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30 launched the BHIM app that will enable fast and secure cashless transactions using mobile phones. The official BHIM app account had also tweeted that they were facing an issues due to massive interest from the public. UPI allows a customer to pay directly from a bank account to different merchants, both online and offline, without the hassle of typing credit card details, IFSC code, or net banking/wallet passwords.More news: Uber Hits Self-Driving Snag In California
All a person needs to start using BHIM is a phone number and a bank account linked to that number. The application is developed by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). You will need to register using the mobile number which directs you to create the UPI pin.
BHIM restricts transfers to Rs 10000 per transaction and Rs 20000 in 24 hours. Users can check balance, make transactions and scan OR codes. Transactions are possible only between verified phone numbers.
The list of supported banks include ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, State Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, among others.
